Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
I was upgrading my laptop with a faster WiFi card, SSD, and RAM when I noticed what looked like an m.2 slot in the middle of my motherboard. Intel RST is showing an empty port, but I can't find any details on it. I can't find any specifications anywhere on the motherboard in my 15-bs192od. The motherboard is a HP 832A according to CPU-Z. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
What port is that in the middle of the motherboard?

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. I came across your post and would like to assist.
I understand that you have anHP Notebook - 15-bs192od. I read that you would like to know if an SSD can be added to this laptop.
I did some research and came across the service manual for your laptop model series. Based on the user guide, this laptop does not have an M.2 slot. Also, there is no option defined to install an SSD.

I got ahold of two m2 drives from a friend and tested them last night. The PCIe NVMe drive didn't work, but the m2 sata drive worked. I can confirm that a sata SSD will work in the 2.5" bay AND in the m.2 slot. So this laptop actually supports two ssds. I'd recommend a SATA SSD in the m2 slot for boot drive, and the oem drive in the 2.5 bay for storage.

Absolutely great observation.
Yes a SATA SSD should work fine. It didn't cross my mind then.

Hi,
I think u've got things a bit confused. Sthlrd07 has a laptop with intel's 8gh gen cpu and m.2 slot. you link contains a service man for a laptop with AMD cpu and no m.2 slot

I have seen similar situations and a pcieX4 !!! drive was downrated to pcie x2 and worked a bit slower...
can u pls tell me the make and model of the pcie drive that u tested ?

The central M.2 connector (labeled only M2X3) is a 2280 M.2 "M" key connector. I measured it, and it is a 22mm (wide) by 80mm (connector to screw hole (near the edge, also labeled M2X3). The connector has 5 pins on the left side of the connector before the plastic "key" gap, making it an "M" type connector. ("B" type keyed connectors have 6 pins in the minority side of the plastic key gap.) It is unclear if this connector supports SATA III (6GB/S) via M.2 (but it probably does, because the HDD area when equipped with a different M.2 mounting bracket can support the SATA III GB/s). The real question is, does it also support the PCIe X4 interface (that NVME drives would want.) Because it is a Type "M" connector, if it does support PCIe, then it is the X4 variety. The 6 pin "B" key would support X2 PCIe (if it supported PCIe at all), but this motherboard has the 5 pin "M" connector. If only HP would publish the proper data for this system. HP 15-bs192od system. (I have one as well.) But I don't feel like shorting out the motherboard because I cannot find out the details of what HP supports on this M2X3 connector, on the 15-bs192od system, with a "M" key, size 2280.
