ROGERS, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Early voting is setting records all across Arkansas, but for many in Rogers who haven’t voted yet, two mayoral candidates are racing for office.
Both candidates in the City of Rogers have a plan for if they are to be elected.
Chris Latimer is a mayoral candidate for the city of Rogers. Latimer’s campaign is based on three things: work, protect, and build. “I’m pretty excited you know we’ve been working a long time. As far as things we’d want to implement, you know quickly, would be our gang task force that’s one of the first things we’d want to implement,” said Latimer.
Latimer thinks with a gang task force implemented in his plan he can work and protect the city if he were to be elected. Also, Latimer says he can promote growth within the city. “People are moving here every day, and what happens when you have some explosive growth like we are experiencing? You experience problems. Those are the good kind of problems. Those are the kind of problems that you want,” said Latimer.
Latimer thinks that the mayor’s office needs a change because the citizens of Rogers need to be heard during this time of expansion in Northwest Arkansas. Especially Rogers. “Really some new leadership is what’s needed to continue to see Rogers grow. Because here is what I think. I think Rogers can be the best place and really the leader in commerce and entertainment and a great place to raise a family and to live. That’s what I want to make sure Rogers is,” said Latimer.
All the while Latimer has been campaigning, and so has his opponent. The current in office Mayor, Greg Hines has been in office for 14 years, and now he’s seeking re-election.
“You know my job as a candidate is to make things as easy as possible. To try to reach people where they are, and give them the information to help them make an informed decision,” said Hines.
That is why Hines has a plan for the city of Rogers if he were to be re-elected. “We’ve got to rebuild our community and we want to build back stronger,” said Hines.
Mayor Hines has some advice for voters, as they head to the polls to cast their vote for mayor. “Look at both candidates and ask yourself the question. Are you so tired enough of winning? Do you wanna take a chance on losing? I mean as I’ve said I have not gotten it right all the time. And we’re going to make mistakes but I’m pretty confident that what we’ve delivered over the past 14 years is tantamount to winning Super Bowls,” said Hines.
So, Hines and Latimer are continuing their race to the mayor’s office. All in hopes of making an impact on the city.
“At the end of the day I believe we’ll prevail and we’ll go into 2025 strong,” said Hines.
“You know we’re excited about the election. For people to come out, and have their voices heard. It’s an important part of the process,” said Latimer.
